KatieKatie Vie has been immersed in aromatics for nearly half of her life.  After completing a BA in literature from UNC-A, Katie moved to Albuquerque, NM to study massage therapy at the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics. There, she was first introduced to aromatherapy, and her romance with aromatic botanicals began.  While practicing as a massage therapist, Katie completed her first aromatherapy course with Jade Shutes through the Institute for Dynamic Aromatherapy in 2001. She went on to do a Master’s Apprenticeship with Jade in 2004. Katie has also had the privilege to study Aromatic Kinesiology with Robbi Zeck, botanical perfumery with Mandy Aftel and attend several retreats and classes with David Crow.  In 2005 Katie accepted a teaching job at the Asheville School of of Massage and Yoga, where she taught Swedish Massage, Aromatherapy and Self Care for 5 years. Following her love of aromatics, Katie left this job to focus on her product line, river island apothecary.  Currently, she teaches Aromatherapy and holds self care experiences for groups upon request. Katie is in her 16th year practicing as a massage therapist. She maintains a lovely studio in Marshall where she sees clients and blends for river island apothecary. Katie is also a founding member and co-owner of Flow, a gallery dedicated to fine local craft. She is passionate about approaching aromatic botanicals as both a therapy and an art form; her body work, her product line and her classes all reflect this.
